A bunch of guys I work with have started playing this game and after a small bit of pressuring, I decided to partake.
The game itself really isn't that bad. It's a fairly simple strategy game, with the "casual" tie-in of everything takes an assload amount of time unless you're willing to drop some cash to purchase 'gems' which help expedite any/all processes from constructing more buildings, upgrading buildings, training troops, etc. None of that is required if you're patient and don't mind waiting the timers out.
There are 10 different kinds of troops that I've encountered so far in my time playing, but apparently you can even upgrade your troops as well. Which is something that I don't have access to yet in my limited time playing. There are also Hero units that you can get your hands on which are super-units compared to the rest. You have the option of playing the campaign or duking it out against other players. You can also purchase a "shield" for real money that makes it so other players can't attack you.
There are also, obviously, clans. You have to rebuild the clan castle that is on your map, and after that, you have the ability to join clans alongside other players. You gather trophies from PvPing, and those trophies count toward your clan's level. You can also request troops or donate troops to the rest of the clan as well. This does take away from your army total, so you're going to want to make sure to replenish your own army stock if you do go about donating to your clan-mates.
Despite it's simplicity, it is rather fun. As long as you can stop yourself from spending money.
My name on there is Paragon if anyone else plays. I'm already in a clan, too.
