I've been spending most of my days playing League of Legends lately. I don't think I'm anywhere near good at this game, but I have fun playing it all the same.
Lately, I've been thinking about different ways to play the available champions. Every champ has a "build," some can be played multiple ways, but I'm thinking more of an nontraditional build that's outside of the box.
Here are some of my ideas so far..
Lately, I've been thinking about different ways to play the available champions. Every champ has a "build," some can be played multiple ways, but I'm thinking more of an nontraditional build that's outside of the box.
Here are some of my ideas so far..
- AP Aatrox: By going AP, you're maximizing the damage on his E(Blades of Torment), which is also his slow, as well as maximizing the damage from his R(Massacre). This will reduce his Q(Dark Flight) into being nothing more than a closer/escape and his W(Blood Thirst) should remain toggled off. His E scales with +60% AP and +60% bonus AD, while his R scales with +100% AP. While I feel like this build has potential, he either needs to be fed early on to get him to post-6, or he will be a late-game contender only.
- AD Ahri: By going AP, you're removing all possibility of stat scaling. Capping her E(Orb of Deception) to capitalize on the usage of her Passive(Essence Theft), while capping her R(Charm) will put her taunt at its longest duration to extend the amount of time you have to use basic attacks. I normally cap her R first. Her W(Fox-Fire) will help clear lanes or poke, while her R(Spirit Rush) will be used as a closer/escape route. I already know how effective this build can be as I've actually used it. It's also absurdly fun.
- AD+AS Akali: Her Passive(Twin Disciplines) scales with both AD and AP, but only her E(Crescent Slash) scales with AD, so we're going to be maximizing the amount of damage done by basic attacks and her E. Her base attack speed is already reasonably high, so I'm going to build her with AD and AS items. Use her Q(Mark of the Assassin) to boost the damage from her attacks and her E. Her W(Twilight Shroud) should be used to secure kills and escape potential losing fights. Her R(Shadow Dance) can be used as a closer to secure kills, but it does not scale with AD. I feel like this build has potential, but it is more likely to fail due to her reliance on her abilities to secure kills.
- AD+AS Alistar: Building AD seems like an all-around terrible idea, because none of his abilities nor his passive scale with AD, but I think it might have potential because of the way his Passive(Trample) allows him to ignore unit collision, in conjunction with his R(Unbreakable Will) that breaks all CC, boosts his AD, and reduces damage. He could become an on-hit bruiser. There is little potential here, but I'm not afraid to try it out.
- Amumu: I don't feel like there is a nontraditional way to build Amumu that would be viable. All of his abilities scale and synergize with AP, and his AS scaling is on the lower end. If anyone has any ideas on how he could be played outside of his norm (AP Support, AP Tank), please leave your suggestions below. I will gladly try him out.
- Anivia: Anivia is the same way as Amumu to me. All of her abilities scale with AP and her passive is unaffected by stats gained from items. Though I might look up a way to play her as a Full Tank. Her Q(Flash Frost) stun and her W(Crystallize) wall could be used with efficiency to allow her to tank enemies into a literal corner while her teammates destroy the opposition. I will look into this..
- AD Annie: Before I even start this one, this build has poor potential. Annie's AS is terribly low and scales poorly by level. On the other hand, because of the stun from her Passive(Pyromania), this build still has some potential. Since all it takes is 4 casts of her Q(Disintegrate), W(Incinerate), and E(Molten Shield), you can basically charge her stun and lay in wait. Utilizing her R(Summon Tibbers) as a last resort to secure a kill, or as an escape mechanism. Her E also increases her survivabilty until a stun.
- AP Ashe: By building AP, you are basically putting all of your eggs in one basket, her R(Enchanted Crystal Arrow). This build will rely heavily on you not missing her R. Make sure to cap out CDR as you build your AP, so you can get the maximum amount of shots off per game. This means picking up E(Hawkshot) early, as well as getting some AS items, to maximize gold gains.
- Blitzcrank: Blitzcrank is one of the few champs that can already be built in many roles. His Passive(Mana Barrier) only scales with his mana and activates automatically when his health gets low. His Q(Rocket Grab) scales with his AP, his W(Overdrive) boosts his MS and AS, his R(Power Fist) scales with 100% of his AD, and his R(Static Shield) scales with his AP. That's 2(Q/R) AD and 2(W/E) AP. As such, I don't feel like we can "break the meta" with him.
- AD Brand: This build for Brand will work in the same way as Annie's AD build. You're going to need to rely on Brand's Passive(Blaze) to spread his flame DoT, as well as the stun off of his Q(Sear) to lockdown enemies long enough to lay into them with on-hit damage. All of his abilities scale with AP and his AP isn't great, but it's better than Annie's. His W(Pillar Flame) and E(Conflagration)should be used to spread around his Passive DoT to make sure he can stun, his R(Pyroclasm) should be used to secure kills to melt down the opposition during team fights.
- AP Caitlyn: Building Caitlyn AP will basically be an experiment in how well an ADC transforms into a support. Her W(Yordle Snap Trap) and her E(90 Caliber Net) both scale very well with AP, but those two abilities are not primarily used offensively, they are used to poke and bait, or as a slow and for escapes, respectively. By maximizing the damage of her E, it could be used to secure kills for her R(Ace in the Hole). The damage boost on her W could also snare kills from escaping enemies, much like poisons can do. While I don't feel like it'll be very strong, I will still try it out.
- AD Cassiopeia: Building Cassi (as she shall be known) as AD is going to work out much like Ahri, Annie, and Brand thus far. You're going to be focusing on using her W(Miasma) for a slow and her R(Petrifying Gaze) as a slow/stun depending on the situation. Her Q(Noxious Blast) and E(Twin Fang) should only be used as poke and poison application, and to push her Passive(Deadly Cadence) to 5 stacks for reduced mana cost. Her E will be a good kill secure on poisoned targets, but it is expensive, so you're going to need to handle that accordingly. With all of her slows, poisons, and stuns, an AD build probably isn't extremely viable, but I'm interested in seeing how it'd turn out.
- AD Cho'Gath: Building Cho'Gath as an AD will work just like Ahri. None of Cho'Gath's abilities scale with AD. The benefit of building Cho'Gath as AD all relies on his ability to hit multiple targets with his E(Vorpal Strikes), despite them scaling off of AP. You'll be building AD Cho'Gath with lots of health, some CDR, and ARP to maximize his potential. While I'm fairly sure this is a bad idea, I'm going to test it out anyway.
- AP Corki: Building Corki as AP makes his Passive(Hextech Shrapnel Shells) worthless as it stacks with 10% of his AD. Going this route will focus more on pushing to higher levels of mana, as his Q(Phosphorus Bomb) has high mana costs but scales with 50% AP, his W(Valkyrie) and his R(Missile Barrage) also scale AP and will be your damage focus as they are much cheaper. His E(Gatling Gun) can be used for pushing minions, since it only scales AD. The range and low cost on his R gives this build tons of potential post-6.
- Darius: The only way to "break the meta" with Darius would be to build him AP, but he has absolutely no scaling with AP, so you wouldn't be able to make a viable build. You could potentially build him full-support and play him similarly to Blitzcrank with the use of his E(Apprehend) and his W(Crippling Strike) for some grab-and-slow for your team to pick up kills. Most of his builds are already very tanky, which is why I was going to suggest a Full Tank build, but that seems redundant since he's already built tank. I will see if there is anything I can do with Darius and update this in the future.
- AS Diana: By going full AS with Diana, you are only going to be maximizing the damage done by her Passive(Moonsilver Blade) and doing lots on on-hit damage. If her passive worked with AD, this could have lots of potential for pushing lanes and securing kills through use of her E(Moonfall), and the synergy between her Q(Crescent Strike) and R(Lunar Rush). All in all, I feel like this has very little potential for viability.
- Full Tank Diana: By building as Full Tank, you are going to be sacrificing the damage gains from her AP scaling for more survivability. The synergy between her Q(Crescent Strike) and her R(Lunar Rush) makes for a great initiation tactic in conjunction with the shield off of her W(Pale Cascade), but it can leave her stranded from her party depending on the distance. Her E(Moonfall) can be used situationally to secure kills or prevent escapes. I see this as having some decent potential, but she probably won't be near as good as an actual Full Tank champion.
